I started volunteering on an organic farm in New Mexico in 2012. As a nature photographer who loves animals, I also enjoy travel and writing. It seemed like a good idea to offer my farm skills to expand services. I enjoy providing service to pet owners, travelers, educators, so why not help farm folk who need a break?
I make a modest living as a pet sitter and visual artist. I nearly lost my business due to Covid lockdowns, so I reimagined extended service offerings and farm sits saved my business! I hope to expand service nationally when I'm able to secure a camper van for my photography travels.
Farm sits 411: Access to a truck as backup for veterinary emergencies is always a good plan for larger critters. An emergency credit card or farm store credit account for animal medicine/feed could be warranted, especially if you're traveling during winter months.
Extended farm rates: $50 a day flat rate up to 14 days. If you're traveling more than two weeks the monthly rate kicks in which is $700. You pay for two weeks and get another two for free. That's 14 days extra travel!
Extended pet sit rates: $40 a day, one dog, flat rate up to 14 days. If you travel longer than two weeks, the monthly rate caps at $560. Travel 4 weeks for the price of two! [Add $10 per dog per day.]
The cap is always the same. Two weeks/14 days: $700 or $560, two weeks free. Another two weeks/14 days: $700 or $560, another two weeks free, and so on. If you return during a free week, we're good! If you return during a pay cycle, you pay for days you were away in that cycle.
I've watched over hobby farms, homesteads with goats, chickens, ducks, [even an emu!], to a modest home with 3 pets, ponds and permaculture gardens. My longest sit was 6 months for a traveling professor. See testimonials for more information!
